first_imgAmongst the eight football teams in the 2015 Special Intra-Governmental Tournament, which begins today, there are two favorites– the current champions, the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Legislature.The MYS, in the 2014 edition clinched the tournament from amongst over 16 contenders, with former Liberia midfield maestro Kelvin Sebwe providing the inspiration.The employment of Joe Nagbe and George Gebro at the Ministry now will improve the team’s chances.Howbeit, the Legislature –also formidable force – with Africa’s Legend Sen. George Weah, playing as offensive midfielder has Fofi Kamara, Sebastian Mouh amongst others.Today at 9:00am, over 500 public servants from three branches of Government – Legislature, Judiciary and the Executive – are expected to parade from Broad Street’s Sports Commission to the Antoinette Tubman Stadium to kick-off the three-day football and kickball tournaments.A brief program will precede events where Youth and Sports Minister Eugene Nagbe and Madam Yusador Gaye – the Auditor General of the General Auditing Commission, will be amongst other speakers.The GAC’s AG will take the official kick-off at 10:00am.The tournament should have been “celebrating the Kick-out of Ebola in the country,” but the resurgence of the Ebola has caused the tournament to go on without a theme – an unprecedented incident.The cost of the tournament is about US$12,800 – with a budget allocation of about US$10,400 and US$2,400 for totaled registration of the 16 teams.In the opener, the kickball team of NASSCORP meets Ministry of State. The male team of NASSCORP faces the GAC in the first football derby and LIBTELCO will locks horns with the Ministry of Defence.The Judiciary faces the Legislature to climax the day’s games.
