Rookie ready to fill big shoes in net for Everblades

Stuff like this doesn’t really happen a whole lot,” Johnson said.In moving up, Johnson would be leaving a crease he’s had so much success in since joining the Everblades, starting off this season hot by winning goalie of the week and having an eye on a Kelly Cup run. Like literally last year was our year and now this is our year,” Johnson said.Instead, he is leaving the keys to rookie Devin Cooley.“He is the next man up. He’s got the skills to do it, he’s got the talent, the work ethic to do it,” Johnson said.center_img Blades losing local products Roe, Solow in offseason June 16, 2021 Cooley was loaned to the Blades by the Predators and with Johnson formed without a doubt the best duo in the league, making an instant impact from the first time he touched the ice in Hertz Arena.“As a rookie you really want your start to be great and luckily I was able to have that because of the team in front of me,” Cooley said. “My first game I was able to get a win and my first week I was able to get goalie of the week.”As the torch of great goalies in Southwest Florida gets passed, Johnson knows fans won’t be disappointed.“Cools has got it, He’s got it under control and I know those guys will have his back along the way for sure,” Johnson said.Cooley is up for the challenge.“Yeah, I think we have a really great team this year and I think we have a heck of a chance doing it, so yeah I am ready for it,” Cooley said.The Everblades are back on the ice Wednesday night at home against Jacksonville.
