Stability and momentum key for Lae Snax Tigers finals campaign

first_imgBY SIMON KESLEP Stability and momentum approach by Lae Snax Tigers is what Coach Stanley Tepend remains optimistic about in guiding them heading into finals campaign. With the last match of the normal 2020 PNG NRLC season finishing off this weekend, Tigers have another task on hand taking hosts Moni Plus NCDC Port Moresby Vipers at Sir John Guise Stadium in Port Moresby. This match is what coach Tepend insists the team to win and take a lot of confidence after a loss, 24-4 to Kroton Hela Wigmen. “We will want to win that game (against Vipers) depending on where we finish, I think it is a bit on the top two, I think is when there is a week off. So we would want to win that, take a lot of confidence especially after a loss like this where Wigmen really overpowered us in certain areas.” “For us we will just go back and refocus,” said Tepend. Tepend said Edene Gebbie is still part of Tigers squad and he (Edene) might play next week. “There are just some issues…because we had a momentum (winning games and remaining undefeated from Round 1 to Round 9) and we could not really change much just to bring him in. “He (Edene) missed couple of days at training, the boys played well in Enga and then in Goroka so it is really hard to make changes just for the sake of giving him a game. This is because I have to think of the rest of the squad but he might play next week,” said Tepend. Vipers also have bulk of experience to match up against Tigers following Saturday’s 32-16 win over Cutters. The likes of Ase Boas, Thompson Teteh, Stargroth Amean, Enoch Maki and Brendon Gotuno, Kevin Appo and skipper Ade Kawa should test the reigning champions. Leading Tigers attack will be the likes of Charlie Simon, Mark Tony, Edwin Ipape, Joe Joshua, Noel Joel and the mobile forward pack led by Mark Piti, Junior Rop, Tyger Emere, Ishmael Balkawa whilst Jokedi Bire and Anderson Benford taking on the edges. The Tigers Vs Vipers game kicks off at 4pm on Sunday and is the main game of Round 11’s triple header in the nation’s capital which also sees Kroton Hela Wigmen Vs PRK Gulf Isou (12 noon kick off) and Agmark Rabaul Gurias Vs JPG Waghi Tumbe (2pm).last_img
