first_img Arsenal stars Tomas Rosicky and Danny Welbeck celebrate 1 Arsenal survived a late scare to a claim a 2-1 over Queens Park Rangers on Boxing Day.Olivier Giroud’s red card for a headbutt and a Charlie Austin penalty had put pressure on the Gunners at the Emirates as they looked to claim all three points.But, in the end, goals from Alexis Sanchez and Tomas Rosicky were enough to get Arsene Wenger’s men over the line and put them back above rivals Tottenham, who had won earlier in the day, into sixth spot.Sanchez had a spot-kick saved by Rob Green with just nine minutes on the clock after Armand Traore had foolishly fouled the crafty Chilean, who was running away from goal.But Arsenal’s man of the moment made amends before the break as he headed home Keiran Gibbs’ superb centre.The Gunners’ task got trickier eight minutes into the second period as an enraged Giroud headbutted QPR defender Nedum Onuoha, who he felt had pushed him over as he ran towards goal.Being a man down didn’t seem to halt the red tide engulfing Green’s goal though and, not long after, Rosicky thumped a low strike home to double the hosts’ tally.Arsenal couldn’t keep a clean sheet though as, with nine minutes to go, Mathieu Debuchy clumsily brought down Junior Hoilett and in-form Austin was able to convert from 12 yards out.last_img
